Lip Augmentation & Lifting
“When lips speak volumes—without saying a word.”
What is a Lip Lift & Augmentation?
A lip lift and lip augmentation are cosmetic procedures designed to enhance the shape, definition, and youthful appearance of the lips.
-
A Lip Lift shortens the distance between the nose and the upper lip, creating a more defined Cupid’s bow, increased upper tooth show, and a naturally youthful smile. Unlike fillers, it permanently repositions the lip for lasting results.
-
Lip Augmentation enhances volume, contour, and symmetry, most often with dermal fillers or, in some cases, fat grafting or implants. This creates fuller, smoother, and more balanced lips while maintaining a natural look.
Both procedures can be performed separately or together, depending on the patient’s goals. Whether subtle refinement or a bolder statement, the result is lips that complement the face and highlight one’s expressions.
Who is a good candidate?
You may be suitable for Lip Filler if you want:
-
fuller lips without surgery.
-
correction of asymmetry.
-
enhanced lip border and cupid’s bow.
-
hydration and softness of lips.
-
temporary results with adjustability.
You may be suitable for a Lip Lift if you have:
-
long upper lip with less visible red lip.
-
thin or flat upper lip.
-
aging-related lip lengthening.
-
desire for permanent enhancement rather than repeated fillers.
Choosing between Lip Filler and Lip Lift
You may prefer Lip Filler if you want:
-
temporary enhancement.
-
no surgery.
-
flexibility to adjust volume over time.
You may prefer Lip Lift if you want:
-
permanent improvement.
-
shorter upper lip.
-
more visible pink lip without filler.
During consultation, treatment is recommended based on:
-
facial proportions.
-
smile dynamics.
-
age-related lip changes.
-
your aesthetic goals.
Types of Lip Lift
There are several techniques for lip lifts, each tailored to meet specific aesthetic goals:
-
Bullhorn Lip Lift (Subnasal Lip Lift): The most common type, involving an incision under the nose to lift the center and sides of the upper lip.
-
Central Lip Lift: Focuses on elevating the Cupid’s bow for a more defined upper lip.
-
Corner Lip Lift: Ideal for correcting downturned lips, giving a slight upward tilt at the mouth corners.
-
Gullwing Lip Lift: Involves an incision along the upper lip border, enhancing its definition.
-
Italian Lip Lift: This is a subtler approach, with incisions at each nostril, lifting the lip without affecting the center.
-
V to Y Lip Lift: Involves reshaping the lip area by altering the incision pattern from a ‘V’ to a ‘Y’.

How the procedures are performed
Lip Filler:
-
numbing cream applied for 10-15 minutes.
-
hyaluronic acid filler injected strategically.
-
takes 15–20 minutes.
-
minimal downtime, swelling may occur for 24–48 hours.
Lip Lift:
-
a small incision is made at the base of the nose.
-
a short segment of skin is removed.
-
the lip is gently lifted and sutured.
-
performed under local anesthesia.
-
stitches removed in 5–7 days.
Recovery
Lip filler
-
mild swelling or bruising.
-
can eat and speak normally.
-
avoid heavy exercise first 24 hours.
Lip lift
-
mild tightness or swelling.
-
keep incision site clean.
-
avoid stretching lips excessively during healing.
Complications
Lip Lift
-
Swelling & Bruising: Common and temporary in the first 1–2 weeks.
-
Scarring: Usually hidden under the nose, but some patients may develop thick or visible scars.
-
Asymmetry: Subtle differences in lip shape or position.
-
Altered Sensation: Temporary numbness or tingling in the upper lip.
-
Wound Healing Issues: Rarely, delayed healing or wound separation.
-
Overcorrection/Undercorrection: Lip may appear too short or not lifted enough.
Lip Augmentation (Fillers/Fat/Implants)
-
Swelling & Bruising: Very common, usually resolves within days.
-
Lumps or Irregularities: Can occur if filler/fat does not distribute evenly.
-
Overfilling or Asymmetry: Lips may appear uneven or unnaturally large.
-
Allergic Reaction (rare): More likely with certain synthetic fillers.
-
Infection: Rare, but possible after injections or surgery.
-
Vascular Complications (very rare but serious): If filler accidentally enters a blood vessel, it can cause tissue damage or, in extremely rare cases, blindness.
-
Implant Issues: Shifting, extrusion, or dissatisfaction with size/shape if solid implants are used.
